Clearance Team - Team Leader

DanChurchAid (DCA) Syria invites applications for an experienced Team Leader to join our dedicated team. The objective for this position is per the following;

• Lead, supervise and control the Clearance Team in the safe and effective conduct of assigned clearance activities, in accordance with applicable DCA SOPs and task requirements.
• Direct and supervise the ATL and Deminers in the safe and compliant implementation of assigned clearance activities.
• Ensure the Clearance Team complies at all times with applicable DCA SOPs, safety procedures and task requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, supervise and control assigned clearance procedures in accordance with DCA training, SOPs and task-specific instructions.
• Be prepared to relocate, at short notice, to clearance sites according to operational priorities.
• Ensure clearance activities are conducted at all times in accordance with applicable DCA SOPs, safety procedures and task requirements.
• Ensure the task site is correctly set out and marked, including the control point and administration area, in accordance with applicable DCA SOPs and task requirements.
• Ensure that suspected or confirmed explosive ordnance is identified, marked and reported in accordance with DCA SOPs, and that clearance activities are stopped or controlled as required pending further action or specialist support.
• Acquire a thorough understanding of the overall task planning and execution process.
• Maintain awareness of relevant EOD and IEDD procedures and the requirements for reporting, escalation and coordination with specialist support.
• Understand and apply new training received when relevant to specific task or area requirements.
• Ensure required pre and post task checks are completed, with support from the ATL as appropriate.
• Seek continuous improvement and performance optimisation throughout the employment period.

• As a representative of DCA, always maintain professional conduct.
• Be present at the appointed time and place for work and in a fit condition to carry out the work in progress. 
• Comply with DCA SOPs.
• Always maintain threat awareness and situational awareness.

• Ensure all relevant team equipment is prepared and ready for the task.

MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• Educational Level: Primary School Certificate, a high school degree will be an added asset.
• Years of work experience: At least one year of previous experience in a similar supervisory position within humanitarian mine action clearance; or sufficient relevant clearance experience while working for DCA, with demonstrated aptitude and capability to progress to a Clearance Team Leader role.
• Physically fit and able to safely perform the duties required of the position.

Candidates must have successfully completed recognised Deminer training, demonstrate the competencies required for the Deminer role, and demonstrate the leadership, supervisory and technical capability required for the Clearance Team Leader position. Following appointment, personnel must successfully complete DCA competency verification and applicable induction, refresher and mandatory pre-deployment training before operational deployment.
